The San Blas archipelago, called Guna Yala, is governed by the Guna people and has hundreds of small islands off Panama's Caribbean coast. A 4×4 takes you over the mountains in about two and a half to three hours, then a boat takes you out to the islands.
You spend the day swimming, snorkeling and resting on three or four islands, with a lunch cooked by Guna families. It is a long day, but for many visitors it is the highlight of the trip.
